Chocolate Buttercream Frosting: Simple, Creamy, and Decadent

Chocolate Buttercream Frosting: Simple, Creamy, and Decadent
2-Ingredient

Chocolate frosting doesn’t need to be complicated. With just two ingredients, you can make a creamy, rich, and perfectly spreadable chocolate buttercream that will elevate any cake, cupcake, or cookie. This easy recipe is ideal for both beginners and experienced bakers looking for a quick, reliable frosting.

Ingredients

1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened

1 cup chocolate spread (such as Nutella or any hazelnut cocoa spread)

> Note: Make sure the butter is at room temperature for smooth mixing. Optional adjustments include a teaspoon of milk to thin or a tablespoon of powdered sugar for extra sweetness, but they are not required for this 2-ingredient version.

Instructions

Step 1: Prepare the Butter

Take the butter out of the fridge and let it sit at room temperature until soft. Softened butter mixes more easily and ensures your frosting will be smooth and creamy.

Step 2: Combine Ingredients

In a medium mixing bowl, add the softened butter and the chocolate spread.

Step 3: Beat Until Fluffy

Use a hand mixer or stand mixer to beat the ingredients together on medium speed. Continue for 2–3 minutes until the frosting is light, fluffy, and well combined. Scrape the sides of the bowl to make sure all ingredients are incorporated.

Step 4: Adjust Consistency (Optional)

Too thick? Add a teaspoon of milk at a time to reach your desired consistency.

Too thin? Chill in the refrigerator for 10–15 minutes, then re-whip before using.

Step 5: Frost Your Dessert

Spread the frosting onto cakes, cupcakes, or cookies using a spatula. For decorative swirls, use a piping bag with your favorite tip.

Tips for Perfect Chocolate Buttercream

1. Use high-quality chocolate spread for the best flavor.

2. Room temperature butter is key—cold butter will make your frosting lumpy.
