Crock-pot Navy Bean And Ham Soup

A meal cooked to perfection! This Navy Bean and Ham Soup is always a hit every time I serve it at home. My kids just go crazy all the time! What I love the most about this dish, aside from its delicious flavour, is that it is very hassle-free to cook. I mean, all you need to do is to add all the ingredients in a crock-pot, put it on the stove, turn the heat, and cook. As easy as one, two, and three! It is the perfect dish to serve for busy parents! If you have a lot of extra time to kill before lunch or dinner, give this one a try! Feel free to add more ingredients if you feel like it. Enjoy!

Ingredients:

1 pound small navy beans (or your favourite bean)

1 onion; chopped

2 sticks celery; chopped

3/4 cup chopped carrots

2 tablespoon chopped garlic from a jar

1/2 teaspoon pepper

2 bay leaves, dried

Leftover ham bone with meat on it

1-1/2 cup chopped up ham; optional

4-5 cups water

Broth from the cooked ham

3 tablespoon fat from ham broth

Directions:

Step 1: Remove any bad beans or rock that you may find. Soak the beans in water with 2 tbsp baking soda overnight.

Step 2: Drain the water and rinse the beans.

Step 3: Slice the carrots, celery, and onions.

Step 4: In a crock-pot, add in the sliced veggies and the meaty ham bone.

Step 5: Add in the grease from the ham and the leftover juice.

Step 6: Add in water and the rest of the spices.

Step 7: Place the crock-pot on the stove and turn the heat to medium and cook for 6 hours or until the done.

Step 8: Remove the bone and cook for another 2 hours.

Step 9: Serve with cornbread. Enjoy!
